Chittorgarh is far more than one fort. Within the city you will find towers, palaces and temples that tell the story of
Mewar, and within an easy drive there are wildlife sanctuaries, waterfalls and some of the most visited temples in
Rajasthan. Here are the 12 best places to visit in Chittorgarh, with approximate distances and tips
on covering them by taxi.
Inside Chittorgarh Fort
1. Chittorgarh Fort
India’s largest fort and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, spread over roughly 700 acres on a hilltop. Most of the
city’s famous monuments are inside its walls. Plan at least half a day. Our
Chittorgarh Fort travel guide covers history, timings and tickets in detail.
2. Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory)
A nine-storey, roughly 37-metre-tall tower built by Maharana Kumbha in the 15th century. Every surface is carved with
figures of gods, goddesses and scenes from Hindu epics.
3. Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame)
A 12th-century Jain tower dedicated to Adinath. It is smaller than Vijay Stambh but equally beautiful, and usually far
less crowded.
4. Rani Padmini Palace
A white palace on the edge of a lotus pool with a small pavilion in the water, forever linked with the legend of
Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khalji.
5. Meera Temple and Kumbha Shyam Temple
A peaceful temple complex associated with the saint-poet Meera Bai. The larger Kumbha Shyam Temple has a tall
Indo-Aryan style spire and fine stone carvings.
6. Kalika Mata Temple
Originally an 8th-century Sun temple, later dedicated to Goddess Kalika. It is especially lively during Navratri.
7. Rana Kumbha Palace and Light & Sound Show
The atmospheric ruins of the oldest palace in the fort. In the evening, a light and sound show narrates the story of
Chittorgarh – a great way to end your sightseeing day.
8. Gaumukh Kund
A sacred spring-fed reservoir where water flows from a cow-mouth shaped rock. The cliff-edge setting offers one of the
best viewpoints in the fort.
9. Fateh Prakash Palace Museum
A palace built by Maharana Fateh Singh that now displays sculptures, arms, costumes and paintings from the Mewar region.
